Bolivia Tea

Tea in Bolivia includes herbal infusions, black tea, and a smaller presence of green and specialty teas, shaped by local plant traditions and import availability. In cities such as La Paz, Santa Cruz, and Cochabamba, tea is found through supermarkets, cafés, and markets, often alongside a wide variety of herbal infusions made from native plants. In rural areas, tea consumption is more strongly associated with herbal drinks prepared at home, sometimes for both daily use and traditional purposes. The tea market is influenced by altitude, local agriculture, and cultural preferences that favor herbal beverages over imported tea leaves. Compared with coffee and soft drinks, tea occupies a secondary but culturally integrated role, particularly through herbal traditions. As a result, tea in Bolivia reflects a hybrid market where local infusions dominate and imported teas fill a supporting role.
