Greece Tea

Tea in Greece includes a mix of herbal mountain teas, black tea, green tea, and a growing selection of specialty and iced teas, shaped by strong domestic herbal traditions and modern retail access. In cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki, tea is widely available through supermarkets, cafés, and specialty shops, where consumers encounter both imported teas and locally sourced herbal varieties like mountain tea (tsai tou vounou). In smaller towns and rural areas, tea consumption is more closely tied to home preparation, particularly herbal infusions made from locally gathered plants. The tea market in Greece is influenced by climate, tourism, and wellness trends, which reinforce demand for natural and functional beverages. Compared with coffee, which dominates daily consumption, tea occupies a secondary but culturally steady role, especially in colder months or for health-related use. Bottled teas and iced tea products have expanded availability in mainstream retail. As a result, tea in Greece reflects a blend of traditional herbal practices and modern consumer demand within a coffee-centric environment.
