Suriname Tea

Tea in Suriname includes a diverse mix of black tea, herbal infusions, and imported specialty teas, shaped by multicultural influences and household consumption patterns. In Paramaribo and other urban areas, tea is available through supermarkets, local markets, and cafés, where both standard tea bags and herbal blends reflect the country’s diverse population. In rural communities, tea is often prepared at home, with herbal infusions playing a significant role alongside imported black tea. The tea market is influenced by cultural diversity, import networks, and traditional knowledge of local herbs, which expand the definition of tea beyond conventional categories. Compared with more dominant beverages such as coffee or fruit-based drinks, tea occupies a steady but secondary role, often associated with home use and health-oriented consumption. Visibility is shaped by retail access and cultural traditions rather than large-scale branding. As a result, tea in Suriname reflects a product landscape where multicultural practices and local ingredients influence everyday consumption.
